Dear Friends and Partners in Aviation Weather,FPAW Logo

The Fall 2021 FPAW Meeting will take place on October 4-7, 2021 between 11:30 AM – 4:00 PM EDT daily. Given the uncertainties associated with the ongoing pandemic, we reluctantly made the decision to, once again, hold the meeting virtually. The meeting will be a Technical Exchange Meeting (TEM) among federal agencies that conduct (1) weather research impacting, assisting, or supporting aviation and/or (2) operations that require aviation weather information. The goal of this TEM is to gain awareness of current and planned research efforts, uncover any redundancies in activities and identify research gaps, inform industry and academia of needs and opportunities (these groups will also be invited), and brainstorm plans for future collaborations.

The first three days will be focused on traditional (large transport, business, and general aviation), non-traditional (including but not limited to uncrewed aerial systems and urban air mobility), and multi-use (other efforts that benefit aviation) weather areas. Each day will highlight relevant operations, research and development activities and aviation weather governance, and end with an exchange of information concerning gaps and overlaps within and between that day’s presenting organizations. The fourth day is intended to expose gaps and discuss the synergies among all federal aviation weather agencies that participated.

The Fall 2021 FPAW Planning Meeting will take place two weeks later, on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, from 11:30 AM – 4:00 PM EDT. As usual, we will look at potential discussion topics for the next year’s Spring and Fall FPAW Meetings.

More details will be provided as we get closer to the FPAW Fall Meeting. Thank you!

With best wishes,

Matt Fronzak and Matthias Steiner
