Hello, FPAW members.
The FPAW Steering Committee (SC), which was stood up in the Fall of 2022, will celebrate its 2nd full year of existence this coming September. With little in the way of precedence to lean on, it has gotten into a nice and productive rhythm in its approximate monthly meetings. The FPAW SC has played an increasingly large role in the planning of FPAW Meetings and was instrumental in the creation of the first (but surely not the last) FPAW Position Paper. Equally or more importantly, it has proven to be comprised of individuals who care deeply about being Friends and Partners in Aviation Weather.
We constructed the terms of individual FPAW SC members so that either four or five of its members (approximately 1/3 of its membership) rotate off the committee each year. This means that September 30th marks the end of the current terms of five FPAW SC members. The following table lists our colleagues who are scheduled to cycle off the committee at the end of September, along with the aviation weather constituency that they represent.

These individuals have made significant contributions to FPAW, as presenters, panelists and session leads at FPAW meetings, and as members of the FPAW SC. Each one has our sincere gratitude, and we hope that they elect to throw their names back into the FPAW SC candidates hat, which members cycling off the FPAW SC certainly can do.
Speaking of names of FPAW SC candidates, if you, too, desire to serve the FPAW community, Matthias and I would like to use this opportunity to encourage you, the members of FPAW, to self-nominate for one of the five open positions. Alternatively, if you know of someone else who you think should serve as a member of the FPAW SC, regardless of whether they are a current FPAW member, feel free to forward this email to them and have them submit their own nomination to us.
The process for self-nomination is simple: send an email to Matthias (msteiner@ucar.edu) and me (mfronzak@mitre.org) that contains (1) a 1-2 paragraph expression of interest in serving on the FPAW SC, including information about why you should be selected, (2) the constituency (Providers, RED and Academia, Regulators, Users) that you would be representing, and (3) a current CV/resume. That’s it!
Self-nominations for the five open FPAW SC slots will be accepted through COB EDT on Friday, August 30, 2024. As soon as possible after that, we will communicate the slate of candidates to the entire FPAW community. No later than mid-September, the FPAW SC will select the individuals who will fill the four open slots, and we will welcome them to the FPAW SC shortly thereafter.
We hope you’ll consider joining us and helping to shape the future of aviation weather!
